fair question i think everyone who's plugged in certainly not the generally public but im not sure they matter so much in this case. this seems a matter of Society more than society hard to say tho. ample uncertainty

I'm not even sure that's true, that they know it's bad that they're the story. Have been perplexed how many pieces have been published about McNeil in the NYT itself, and not even sure they're all Ben Smith. Every scandal that spills out gets incestuous coverage.

If you ever listen to the Fifth Column podcast, Matt Welch has had Dean Baquet number since working with him at The LA Times, capitulating around images of statues of Mohammed. Even if Baquet knew better it seems like they're bleeding institutional knowledge by the day.
