Perhaps as journalists become less concerned with neutrality and impartiality, they become more generous with their friends and hostile towards their enemies. That would explain both your and Scott's experiences.

His experience being that true information about an influential public figure was published in a newspaper even though he didn't want it to be?

His experience being that journalists would use dishonest tactics to discredit his work. For instance, his readership spans a broad spectrum of political views, yet the article focuses on Moldbug -- one of the few people whose writings he partially censored on his blog!

My view, after interacting w/ the SSC commentariat, including on Reddit, build down to they may disagree on tax policy or gay marriage, but they all agree that brown and black people should accept THE SCIENCE shows they are less intelligent

and feminists are so kooky, not understand THE SCIENCE also shows they need a strong man to control them, and wasn't it BETTER back in the good ole' days when white dudes basically controlled everything and women and brown and black people had less of a voice?

Yes, that's not an unreasonable characterization of the reactionary current among SSC's readership. This only comprises a small part of SSC's readership, however, and does not represent Scott's views.

Maybe Scott should start pushing on his neoractionary audience instead of happily using them as his sword against NYT reporters and other evil SJW's?

How should he do that, in your view? Do you want him to explicitly write a post examining and criticizing reactionary ideas?

I know what you're getting at, but one post doesn't out weigh years of letting a reactionary commentariat fester, and writing dumb articles that basically say incels are the real victims and that Trump really isn't a racist, that's just SJW's calling everybody racists again.
