it is interesting that they would do this because it suggests either (i) people not in the GOP are trying really hard to fuck it over or (ii) establishment people in the existing GOP don't think they they can quell drive out the Trumpists

starting a new party is really hard and surrendering the existing GOP infrastructure would be incredibly dumb if you actually wanted to defeat Trumpists because it seems unlikely to me they'd be able to build their own infrastructure if forced

A large part of the existing GOP infrastructure would jump ship in a heartbeat Even if I don't like this new party then I still support its creation because I think ending the duopoly is possibly the only way to save the US. It would open the door for more parties & realignment

I may just be a dreamer but the thought of 5+ parties with 10-25% support slugging it out and forming coalitions thrills me. Libertarian, populist right, center right, center left, socialist left, greens. Imagine a presidential race that was legitimately contested 3 or 4 ways
