can be rough even if the only person you are comparing yourself to is yourself i fell into the trap of get frustrated because lifts are not improving -> train more -> overtrain -> get anxious, injured, or sick -> regress -> get frustrated because lifts are not improving

one thing that could have helped is a team environment (including an intelligent coach) to keep myself grounded. besides structure and periodization, this also provides a natural male(-ish) space i guess one could argue this serves a role vaguely comparable to therapy
