re: the math stuff, Vladimir Arnold (odes books guy) (lunatic) has a problem book for kids 5-15, which apparently builds up to poincare recurrence. Also a book for high schoolers building up to Abel’s theorem. Those sort of old problem books might be cool to check out !

When I was a kid I had this old Russian puzzle book that did a lot of Knight’s Tours and other similar puzzles that feel “good” to solve. I didn’t care about math at all, but I cared about those, and it’s close enough there’s probably some crossover benefit.
