I have some kind of gut instinct against “regressive taxation,” yet how could I argue with someone who knows about 10k times more about this topic than I do?

Sadly I think people don't even realize that the money withheld from their checks is tax they are paying and they won't be hit with some random magic bill at the end of the year. Capitation simplifies the fuck out of the new hire forms so no more mistakes and oopsie tax bills.

On a percentage basis, perhaps. But I can’t think of a way to capitate when the high and low ends are 5-6 orders of magnitude apart. It would simultaneously disincentive work on the low end and give the rich taxes so low that heads would literally roll.

how would it disincentive work? one might expect it to encourage it if anything :D

Most people also ignore the fact that if capitation reduces the supply of labor, salaries rise in response which males the tax more affordable.
