What's almost more remarkable is that I don't see our press as particularly interested in maintaining freedom of the press, by and large. And the Common Man has always been wobbly-kneed on free expression. What's the free speech constituency even look like at this point?

overall my suspicion is that the conditions for defending "people may say what they like" are the same as "people may vote as they like" and if you want to restrict the former you may as well formalize it by calling it quits on the latter too
