conor opens comparing 1/6 to 9/11, warning against overreaction i have done this and now i am nevertheless immediately wondering what defense i would mount for Overreaction i am a sick man

the argument for (THOUGHTFUL) overreaction is just preparing for tail risks that had seemed previously very unlikely, and also by (THOUGHTFULLY) overreacting reducing the likelihood of those tail risks im thinking i maybe 30% believe in this incidentally

i also have no faith that any overreaction will be competent so this is kind of dead letter

did merkel really suggest that the GOVERNMENT set rules for speech on twitter that is not only unconstitutional but insane ("wow what if my opponents take over the government someday naw how could that happen") and i respect both her and europe much less if that is the case

I mean she's essentially arguing for an FCC of sorts, no? America has rules for radio, tv, magazine publishing. Couldn't even swear on tv till recently! Dunno if I agree but not that outlandish

depends what you mean by "recently" for print. FCC is awful yes

The "recently" was more aimed towards TV and radio. I'd rather not have an FCC for the internet but was more saying that it wouldn't be unprecedented. Part of me kind of wants a nationalised "public square" bound to the same rules as a normal town square would be.
