tbf how many adults actually bother trying to explain anything ... ever??? instead of just dismissing teenagers entirely

wrt my terrible youthful relationship error, my parents tried *very hard* to explain why it was risky, and I'm not sure anyone could have convinced me not to do the thing

still probably harmful to have parents who treat you like you're incapable of rational thought (even if, in this case, you are!) i wish i had parents like this

My parents told me some stuff but they wanted me to learn a lot of life lessons myself first then they'd talk with me about it afterwards. I liked that. Also "do your homework" is a very very useful lesson that teens disregard.

a real problem for young teenagers is that you are desperately in need of good advice and while you often get a lot of it it is very difficult to tell which bits are good i genuinely feel for you

a second problem is that even on those rare occasions when I know what the correct action is in a given situation it is often difficult to explain to someone how I know, or to explain it in a way that makes any sense given their contextual knowledge just a hard bunch of problems
