seems likely republican party is first to break. who even takes leadership? mcconnell? could he WIN a leadership contest at this point? what happens next is difficult to determine

do democrats take establishment refugees? centrists might want it but do leftists? (doubt) do they just hang around as a spent force until their terms are up? keep control of the party and force trumpists to start their own party? can he even run again?

would leftists end up joining with disaffected trumpists in a populist party? feels like there's too much bad blood but maybe not

all of this conditional on no complete collapse of the US natch

i don't know i think the last two days have brought things to a head very quickly and biden is going to have an incredibly difficult time holding the center, if that is his goal (I imagine it mostly is)

imagine negotiations between biden and mcconnell are ongoing and incredibly interesting

it seems likely to me that it would be very foolish for the democrats to try to destroy the republican party rather than help them on their feet compare the allies after ww1 lets see whether democrats are fools i am not holding my breath

heres one smart(?) thing to do 1. democrats relax party dogma and admit existing republican members who hold anti trump 2. run large primaries everywhere, most likely win generally 3. this prevents D / establishment R ticket split with trumpist candidates in rightish districts

basically keeps status quo but freezes out trumpists and prevents establishment ticket splits establishment might go for it but leftists would probably somehow torpedo it oh well
