CORRECTION: i stated yesterday that jacob blake was not holding a knife when police shot him in the back - it appears he very prob was i still feel strongly than seven bullets in the back was an excessive response but i believe in admitting my mistakes and not spreading misinfo

generally best practice is that if you shoot you shoot until someone is on the ground and not getting up one hit is not obviously enough to disable a target, and someone in close proximity with a knife is incredibly dangerous i can get videos if you like but I don't recommend

Better wording is shoot until threat is gone. The threat can no longer exist before you get to a point where the perp isn't getting up anymore. Example would be the weapon is dropped and out of reach.
