what happens if you put a 45rpm lp on at 33 1/2 does it just sound fucked up

IIRC 33 was actually a later tech, only worked once they figured out how to cut the vinyl more precisely

I used to do this all the time as a kid

just to be clear I never collected vinyl nor did my parents, my dad just had a bunch of old stuff from the 60s and 70s that he never threw out

I have an old portable Califone player with a 16 2/3 RPM setting—half the speed of a 33 1/3, for playing spoken-word records that maximized length at the expense of fidelity.pic.twitter.com/xRLoXVkZbP

i bet the zero rpm records were wild

45s were usually smaller diameter, so they'd be smaller time capacity for that reason as well. Basically a 45 side would hold one song; "albums" were originally sets of 45s; and then the 33-1/3 LP ("long-playing") record could fit a whole album on two sides of one disc.

Here’s an EXCELLENT example. Jolene played at 33 RPM.https://youtu.be/doz1QJ7LwjA

You need to try it with a 78, it is even more underwhelming. In the old times we would get all hopped up on folgers and run an LP at 78. I recommend Bach

You have no idea how crazy it we got, once you have played Switched on Bach at 78 rpm you can’t drive 55 anymore. (Cf. Hagar 1984)
