like the social left in particular doesnt seem to have any ability to depict what an ideal society looks like from their perspective (am i missing this?) "society as it exists is hopelessly Bad" very well what do you propose we do and what does a better world look like?

i think there are some policy proposals floating around for the "what do we do" question, but most energy seems spent not on these measures (they seem like an afterthought, see the lists of demands occasionally submitted by protesters) and the actual desired outcome is unknown

this is pretty interesting to me older movements, eg OG communists, were much more intellectually ordered "we will do X for reasons Y and it will result in Z which is good" what explains this discrepancy?

Current left not only thinks things are bad right now, they also think humans are bad and unsustainable. The only times I see depictions of utopian society it's pathetic village like commutes where no more than 3k people could exist. They must reject ideas they hold but they dont

The guy who didnt want to take care of his 5 children and put all of them into an orphanage where their life-expectancy was greatly reduced? I wonder if their are any utopist that werent bachelors or lived a bachelor-lifestyle.

I actually have the opposite impression. I’ve found The Left to be very utopian: abolish capitalism, have the state pay for X, Y, and Z, etc. I’ve found them to be far more resistant to incremental changes in favor of grand utopian visions.
