This article is worth a re-read as it's been updated a few times now. Some key missing parts about why this man was roaming the streets have been filled in. Unfortunately, I believe this one lands on the DA's office. A few thoughts below. Michelle Tandler 🔦 @michelletandlerThis is incredibly sad and disturbing. Two women were killed last night by this man. He was released last month after a burglary arrest. In November McAlister was arrested for auto burglary, possessing burglary tools and violating the terms of parole. On Dec. 20, he was arrested on suspicion of car theft and possessing stolen property, methamphetamine, burglary tools and drug paraphernalia. (3/x)

The article states that "McAlister has been arrested in San Francisco on other occasions since being paroled, officials said, but details of those cases were not immediately available". 5+ felonies in two months after release from prison. The DA's office did not press charges.

A friend in government told me it's rare for parole officers to do much if no charges are filed... This man was a known violent criminal. He committed five felonies in Nov and Dec... He was set free and killed two women.

My heart goes out to the team at the DA's office. They must be devastated. I believe the DA's people are inherently good, and trying to make the world a better and more just place. This case serves as a powerful case study. I hope we make changes because of it.
