At least in Elder Scrolls pre-Skyrim, they separated speed and agility.

The str/con distinction is such a bizarre idea and everyone else just runs with it.

Poison. You can pick up a tree and swing it around, but eat the wrong mushroom? You're in the outhouse for a week and a half. While this other guy has trouble carrying a backpack for more than an hour but accidentally drank poison and didn't even notice.

I prefer Fallout's "S.P.E.C.I.A.L.", myself, but real life is probably best described with Marvel Super Heroes. Everybody is, more or less, somewhere between "Poor" and "Typical". A handful can aspire to "Excellent".

Problem with rolling Stats is any good DM knows if any player gets bad stats they're going to hate the game over time(you can only play a joke character for so long)
-
So you either let them keep rolling thier stats until they approximate the stats they actually wanted or just skip it all together with point buy. Rolling status is pretty fun for one shots tho
