Just reading three body problem now. I am by no means well informed on CCP fuckery, but I'm astounded it was allowed to be published in the PRC. The first part of the book is a venomous denunciation of the Cultural Revolution. I guess that's kosher in China, but it surprised me.

It was published in 2006, so maybe before Xi and his ideological crackdown. But hot damn he pull no punches. The first section is a protagonist watching her professor father get beaten to death in a struggle session for teaching capitalist relativity and Copenhagen interpretation

It was a massive best seller in China, so it's not like it slipped through. Might have slid under the wire though. The great firewall first came online that year. Hope he can get out to a Western country, along with a few million hongers
