follow up question further specifying that i had in mind deontological polyamorists who insist that non poly relationships are necessarily bad in some sense, as perhaps there are many deontologieshttps://twitter.com/eigenrobot/status/1344005676075388930 …

is there any reason that we must limit poly critiques to romantic relationships? is there any way in which standard parenthood can be justified for example given its imposition on the child

There is a 'standard' parenthood model? If so, do tell. Our nuclear family model is an oddity of history. Most of the time we use extended families and tribal/band relationships into which children are embedded.

yes and did children choose to be in those relationships, did parents feel free to abandon them at all

Kid's don't get a choice early. Options develop over the years. Parents COULD abandon, but the social consequences of action were made more immediate by their reliance on those same extended families. Other adults COULD intervene easier too, but with entangling consequences.

For some time now, I've been a believer in the notion that human brains got as big as they did BECAUSE of the complexity of these entanglements. We had to model more and more humans inside our own skulls as those bands grew in size and success.

Contracts? Yup, but unwritten. They are imposed/enforced through our concept of emergent 'justice.'
