for example "philosophy" is high status in the sense that most people who are interested in it are somewhat high status but its a low status idea in my sense because people are embarrassed to take it seriously

Many "fields" have their own way to express (dis)approval. Something is "a good omen", or "sublime". A lot of misunderstandings happen when people understand "true"/"false"/"unfalsifiable" through this lens.

And of course, sometimes we get a nigh-intractable quagmire when a set of words like "healthy" are caught between: - e.g. homeopathy (used for approval); - sloppy medical 'science' (used for approval); - careful medical science (used for actual outcomes).
