and a lot of these young blood zealots are in search of glory with no sense of proportion or consequence, no "never forget the horrors of war" type POV. it's like a massive forest inferno in lying in waiting for the right circumstances, right demagogue to lead them, etc

perhaps part of it is never seeing yourself as the enemy, in the case of india because you grow up seeing yourself as the underdog for half of high school history resisting the raj and then independence happens and the last couple years are "it's time to Build"

conveniently skipping over the annoying qs of how so many people that lived in abjection before that moment "at midnight when the world sleeps" etc continued to do so after, because you didn't need to be white to rule, being rich and/or a useful nerd was sufficient and necessary

this is also why the average indian who's not very online among western or westernised communities has basically no emotional response to the mention of the holocaust, because "world" history is kind of an afterthought in school

instead you spend a few years learning the precise orders of succession of like ten subcontinental-scale dynasties and ~fifteen regional ones and what each king did better or worse than his dad, which sets you up really well for the modern world
