One of my best friends teaches undergrad math and he tries to have every student that he catches expelled. I take the much more reasonable (and ultimately much lazier) route of writing exams that are extremely hard to cheat.

i used to create multiple but similar-looking variants of exams and hand them out to alternating desks without telling students

my problem with doing that is that it really just helps you find cheaters. I find it much better to ask for creative solutions to questions.

ex: rather than setting up a typical two good economy problem for them, I ask the students to invent a make-believe economy that fulfills some second order condition(s). It’s still just as obvious if they’ve answered correctly, but now everyone will need their own answer.
