think that one thing conquerors should be wary of is turning defeated countries into failed states failed states seem like they eventually sort of recover power but with really fucked up governments looking at what happened after the Qing and after the Hohenzollerns

I think it was a nightmare, albeit a slightly deferred one. The centralization and consolidation of states-and spread of republicanism-set the stage for what we saw in the 20th century.

none of those were general european wars the closest thing to that was 1870 and even that was quite limited
