seems like americas biggest disadvantage in future wars is the fact that our military industrial complex is dominated by sclerotic incumbents who make money by bribing congress to buy shitty expensive equipment am i wrong about this

why do we even put people in military airplanes anymore pilots suck - have to train them - terrible if they die - need tons of life support + space --> heavy ass plane

Glossing over technical issues, it'll be a while before there's enough cultural clout to see a shift. Drone pilot is an officer field, at least in the Air Force, so eventually enough of those officers will achieve commands that give them the political clout to enact change. 1/2

A great parallel was the challenge of switching the Navy from battleships to carriers. It only happened when enough of the first generation Navel Aviators became Admirals. It was a difficult fight against entrenched opposition. The Fast Carriers has all the details. 2/2
