Thrust vectoring is overrated. In a battle of swarms of planes you don't want to do energy draining maneuvers that leave you a sitting duck and avionics are the big force multiplier when you have a whole team.

I dont actually think the technical specs are the problem with the F35, those are a nuisance. The issue is that it's going to just have so many mundane breakdowns that will reduce the sortie rate go a trickle
