The idea is to make the missiles into mini-drones rather than the launch platform. AMRAAM is essentially a drone IMO it just predates the term.

Future I think is larger, slower, less maneuverable “fighters” with lots of very smart missiles and good ECM to house your protoplasmic intelligence unit that shoots really smart missiles from really far away. Barring lasers of course.

read a book called the problem with pi. it details the catastrophes that emerge from minor errors in math coding. 6 F22 jets almost crashed near Hawaii when they passed the international date line, jets system lost all navigation/comm links. Pilots had to manually fly them home.
