why is video game writing bad so often

been replaying the Uncharted series with a friend, and the dialogue in particular is exceptional - light, zippy, unpredictable, funny

Uncharted is Indiana Jones in game form. If it didn't have the good dialogue and cinematic feel it never would have been as popular as it became. I think this is a good thing btw, but also worry that cinematic gaming will be replaced by endless grinding and "lore."
