why is video game writing bad so often

they're both solid exceptions to the rule. most games fail to deal with the constraints of the medium. bioshock was notable in how it narratively dealt with the rails. dishonored nods at bioshock but the more advanced tech allows for more impact on the world.

but i think part of the problem is that nerds like to know how things work, so you get this excessively ornate crap like in deus ex. diablo is an example of the right amount of story for a genre. they're like THERE ARE SKELETONS IN THIS HOLE, and then you have hours of fun.
