economics is a subset of ecology, or maybe vice versa

when done correctly in fact ecology (esp. behavioral ecology) and economics have massive overlap in model use game theory widely used in both cases

alternative perspective (from a non-economist mind you): game theory is overrated, mechanism design especially is too brittle and too hard to ever apply in practice, the best ecology and economics look like more like ethnography

game theory is awesome, agree with everything else in spirit if not in exact detail. def pro ethnography

The very best game theory is awesome, e.g. evolutionary game theory and all the stuff from "Microeconomics: Behavior, Institutions, and Evolution" which is amazing book, it's just extremely hard to do well so it's more like a source of conceptual inspiration than a tool

Imo the chapters are so dense with info that it's best to take it a chapter at a time. Which is not even something I'd say of Hegel, so, lol. The other good, more formalistic and less interesting book in the field is I believe "Evolutionary Game Theory" by Weibull, didn't finish

Iirc every chapter in Bowles' book features real historical example and as a history enthusiast that was just what I needed to keep me engaged despite having to do some math. I imagine you'll love it.
