The only exception is if Selen has significantly more thaumaturgic power or some connection to this demon in particular

Thinking about it more, no. My gut reaction was too strong. I think she should be there alone. You cannot help her against a demon. Humans can't fight demons, they're transhuman. Whatever will happen will happen. If you can't stop her, at least leave, be whole for her recovery.

I've fought three demons, each one weaker than the last, and each showed me even more trivially how powerless I once against them. The last one simply possessed me, and that was that. How do you fight that?

The first dream was on the physical plane. I had extreme speed and strength, and for five minutes I battled the demon's golem. In that time the demon had set fire to all of San Francisco and it was spreading. So uh, I lost that one.

The second dream had a simple and minor demon. It was a bloated rotting mass with many rats under its command. I could not deal with the rats, so uh, I lost that one too, more ignominiously.

The third dream was in a cemetery. The demon there had no body. It entered my mind and made me hate the cross over a grave for a few seconds, and then left me, its point made.

ive only encountered one thing that might be considered a demon in my dreams and it was ineffable, impossible to face but i do pretty regularly kill lesser creatures, witches and zombies in particular

Wtf you kill witches? They better be some evil witches yo... I've killed at least a thousand and arguably many billions of people in my dreams though so I'm no one to judge. Kind of a recurring theme. My defense is, I've never intended physical suffering beyond a facepunch.
