We have spent the entire fucking year knowing that Covid exists. It was sequenced early on. Apparently one of the vaccines was created at a basic level in February. Here is what the government should have done, if they assigned even a small probability to the candidate's utility

1. spun up human safety tests. i do not know what is involved with this but they should have moved quickly. 2. simultaneously moved to massive production of the candidate and creation of a distribution network, while waiting for the results of the safety tests

Well that's the FDA doing bullshit *now*. For about a month. You're arguing that Moderna should've been distributing back in April/May as fast as they could (slowly) spin up production. And given that Oxford needed a second round of trials...

Admittedly, "Oxford needed a second round of trials after the community raised concerns" and "Many months in, we only have 40 Million doses on an exponential growth curve" suggests that couldn't have been *too* bad. But there's just limits here.
