I don't know, you would have to define virtuous. Also, one group is much larger than the other. Based on my albeit limited experience of nobility, they tend to hold themselves to higher standards _on average_. How many bourgeois people are fat, for example?

in the us, far fewer than in lower classes

I think this is more of case where you are comparing the right tails of two distributions and trying to say something about their respective means, when the answer depends on your cut off.

Maybe? It depends on how you operationalize virtue, ig. One natural operationalization is how long you're able to hold onto high status goods (wealth, titles/offices, etc) against competitive & entropic pressures.

The rule today is three generations - one to earn, one to live large, one to lose - with very few exceptions. Historically, many families were able to defend their privilege for longer periods. Is this due to enhanced competition? Degraded families & virtues? New institutions? &c

The closer you get to sovereign, the more duty must outshine the desire for personal virtue.
