Michigan just closed restaurants and schools. And then begged us not to do Thanksgiving. Which much as this corner of Twitter thinks schools are *free* in terms of spread, is both extremely limited and broadly enforceable.

Has not been my experience here in the UK - people mostly following the recommendations of the government (for better or worse), including the ones very difficult to enforce or without defined penalties. (Of course, even more people follow the ones with strict fines like masks)

I am genuinely frightened for people around here this winter. Winters are bad enough here already. Even I’m feeling the effects of this, and the added miserableness of winter normally barely registers on top of all the rest of the miserableness
