fraud is part of the electoral system and thats fine elections are designed by states with locally-chosen representatives who follow local norms about how much tomfoolery to allow in that communities elections that is, local fraud and disenfranchisement are robust federalism

my guess is that the parties could come together on an anti-fraud compromise but (i) democrats are not incentivized to do do this and would demand republicans compensate with rolling back voter suppression, (ii) it would hurt incumbents regardless --> no space for agreement

anyway its an awful fucked up system and further there are good (bad) reasons for the absolute state of things being stuck in this equilibrium, good luck finding a new one in this life

If things are close enough you can win in a not-obvious way, sure why not. The highest numbers I've seen out of Milwaukee are 10K (and that was withdrawn, maybe we have new numbers?), which like... OK, Wisconsin was a swing state. Good job everyone.
