yeah, but the PM in parliamentary systems isn't directly elected. Maybe the UK should use another voting system, but the US system makes less sense

We probably disagree on this. I see cynicism like yours as the result of institutions that are dysfunctional in that they can't produce clear decisions. Government's inability to act leaves it with low "output legitimacy", in political science jargon. My take: fewer veto points!
