Hmm, so I think the “evidenced-based” stuff tends to be pretty close to BS? Like scientism and fake rigor? I liked Expecting Better, but that was just about pregnancy, which is easier. Intorducing allergens early is good though.https://twitter.com/diviacaroline/status/1206115782138068992?s=21 …

Divia Eden @diviacaroline10. The sorts of interesting questions one might want answers to ire: parenting, outside of a few very narrow areas, will probably never be answerable by studies. Many current “studies” are even worse than that. Misreported correlational BS that doesn’t account for genetics.Show this thread1 reply 0 retweets 6 likes -

And I also have problems with the indigenous anthropology stuff, which I’ve read lots of! IMO the actual research papers are a little better than the books though.https://twitter.com/diviacaroline/status/1206117522774216705?s=21 …

Divia Eden @diviacaroline12. One problem with pop parenting anthropology about how Inuit kids don’t get angry and Mexican kids do chores etc. is that you clearly can’t copy the thing on an individual level. And. I think kids today look around and realize they need a different ego structure to operate.Show this thread1 reply 0 retweets 4 likes -

Like a lot of people say stuff about hunter gatherers having lots of alloparenting, but I think that’s not always true, which I found interesting. And iirc the Aka dads act a lot like how moms normally act bc net hunting means they have the babies almost half the time.

IMO the main thing to check about “evidenced-based” stuff that isn’t an actually good RCT with a big effect size (very very rare), is whether they at least tried to control for genetics. If they didn’t, it’s probably useless.

And I’m sorry to be a downer! I think it makes a lot of sense to want both of the things you asked for—I definitely did too.

Not a downer at all! Feedback is a gift and thank you for taking the time to share with me. As a person who never grew up around children, its so foreign to me but I want to do well.
