at what age, at 3 or 4 it's up to the parents, at high school age you have to cover certain bases but if you just go and do stuff that isn't what your kids see other families doing and they think it looks cool they may just ask for it

I mean things like car rides and searching for restrooms in public will teach them that skill just fine I'm going to make my 2yo wear a jacket; there are some things I'm fine "making" my kids do but IMO kids need far less coercion than is imposed on them by default

There's a couple distinctions here. Good schools aren't like the prisons you are implying. Some decisions are better made for them, some left up to them I didn't want to learn how to read, why bother when my parents would read to me? Obv I'm now glad they made me. ...

Otoh, they asked me if I wanted to skip a grade, and, later, go to boarding schoo. Both times I said no, bc I was happy w/ my friend group. And I dont regret either choice
