seven years war was total insanity TOTAL insanity wonder if you could view it as a sort of WWI to the WW2 of the wars of the French revolution and the period between just a sort of interwar period? but if you do that you almost have to roll in the Silesian Wars too hmm

No, they're distinct. 7YW resolved one set of issues (North America hegemony, Prussia as great power); French Rev was about new issues (nationalism, liberalism). American Revolution, though, can be seen as a bridge between the two.

The difference, as I see it, is that the changes in the int'l order wrought by the SYW did not bring about French Rev. The new order could be challenged but wasn't inherently unstable, unlike post-Versailles. Challenge of FR was external, not inherent to the system.
