When labor finally started for the arrival of our oldest, Mrs got the epidural ASAP, then things stalled for a long while. She—of course—couldn't walk, just stared at ceiling.
Mrs: Hey, do those ceiling tiles look wet to you?

Me: I dunno. Maybe. Don't worry about it. ⋮ Mrs: Seriously, that spot is growing and I think it's sagging a little. Me: You're just anxious and imagining things. ⋮ Mrs: Listen, I'm doing nothing between uncomfortable cxns EXCEPT stare at this ceiling. It's getting BIGGER! 2/

Me: OK, Sweetheart, you're right. I'll call the nurse. ⋮ Nurse: Hmn. Lots of our ceiling tiles have stains. Nothing to worry about. ⋮ Mrs: It's sagging quite a bit now. We need to move. ⋮ Nursing Supervisor: You think it has gotten bigger? Us: YES! Significantly bigger! 3/

N.S.: Well, I don't know what would cause that. We'll call Maintenance. I don't think there's any reason to move, tho. ⋮ Mrs: Look how it's sagging! Can you BEG or BULLY someone? Seriously, what are husbands for at this point? I'd be happier giving birth in the hall! ⋮ 4/

Maintenance Guy: Huh! Looks like a leak. Well, it is raining a little. Me: Aren't there at least a couple floors above this one? M.G.: Oh yeah. I better get my supervisor. ⋮ 5/

Finally, we end up with Nurse, Nurse Super., Maint Guy, his supervisor, and doctor in room all insisting that there's no real reason for her to be moved, but if it will reduce her "agitation", OK. They wheel her bed out while I grab my computer and her bag. And BOOM— 6/

Entire drop ceiling throughout that room collapses to the floor along with a huge amount of water and some debris. Orderly: [Looking in from door, while pushing Mrs's bed] Man, you guys _just_ missed getting a free delivery! 7/

Doctor later confided to us that a patient on the floor above had collapsed unconscious in his/her room's shower, body covering the drain. Apparently a sizable part of that floor was covered in water. Nurses from that ward in trouble, having not checked on pt for hours! 8/8
