Consider adding a suppressor. ATF stamp fee is $200, but it greatly reduces the risk of hearing damage while target shooting. Having tried both ways with rental units, I have to say I much prefer the suppressed option.

However, as always, relevant law and regulations vary between different states and localities.

Expect a six month wait for the paperwork to clear. On top of that, many models are on backorder due to recent craziness.

Joining in to concur with these recommends and add that purchasing and holding suppressors (and any other NFA items) through a gun trust is the way to go. One more thing to pay for but they’re cheap to setup, ~$50-100, and can be used for any other NFA items you may want

do you have any trust recs? I might pick one up later i mentioned elsewhere I keep ear pro on my night stand rn which seems suboptimal as a solution

Check out this blog post to determine what will best suit your situation. They offer trusts themselves, but if you find a traditional NFA trust is what you want then I can point you to cheaper optionshttps://www.silencershop.com/blog/post/a-buyer-s-guide-individual-vs-trust …
