I think the way to do that is to model through your own behavior what it is to be a good man. Make sure she knows you love her and expect her to respect herself as much as you respect her. That will do far more than Jane Austen.

so far this has consisted of me making terrible jokes at her through my wifes abdominal wall and spending my paycheck on books for her to read

An issue with using Austen for this purpose is that Austen wrote in a world in which a bourgeois woman's telos _was_ to marry. Now education and career compete as priorities with child-rearing for women. I'd imagine a post-1950 writer might better address these tensions

Controversial statement? There are too many unknown variables to worry about this right now. Focus on being present without being a snowplow, supporting the interests she develops as much as you possibly can, and developing her esteem and ethic.
