no one is going to do shit this is laughable upper middle class people are defined among other things by their absolute lack of familiarity with violencehttps://twitter.com/hradzka/status/1308042885443411969 …

Hard Lefty radicalization watch: in the kind of move I’m used to seeing only from white nationalists, bluecheck Mona Eltahawy tweets her book excerpt: basically, “what if radical feminists just started murdering men at random, I’m just asking questions” https://feministgiant.substack.com/p/how-many-rapists-must-we-kill … pic.twitter.com/sewgxfAwaK

If I started threatening violence everyone around me would just roll their eyes and continue. And they'd be right. If I ever actually had to hurt someone else (with a weapon even!) I would likely cry the entire time. Even, maybe especially, if it was self defense.

For some reason I have been more comfortable about this but I dont threaten ppl with violence either Hmm Have you thought about pushing this a bit? (If male, I don't know your gender) It might be interesting Try some judo Might make you feel more comfortable in a sense

I'm female. When I was younger I took kickboxing classes, which I enjoyed, but never went against another person. I punched a bully in school, but that was years ago and I haven't had a need to hit someone else since. I think it would be easier if I was protecting someone else.

I've never countenanced serious violence except when someone else was in danger Typically women being assaulted Honestly screaming is a good defense for women, in at least a subset of men this spikes an immediate Red Haze

Rory Miller is good on this though, probably worth reading Facing Violence or maybe hitting de Becker's Gift of Fear

I have a copy of The Gift of Fear saved somewhere but hadn't bothered to sit down and read it yet. Maybe now's the time. I'll look into Facing Violence, too. I'm not expecting to need to fight, but it would be good to be more prepared for it, I think.

Yeah Haven't read de Becker personally but probably more salient for women Miller's claim is that men and women end up facing different kinds of violence (social vs predatory) and optimal responses differ Avoidance is realistically the most important stage in each case
