eigenrobot added,
Okay. You got me on this one. What's the problem? {Many of us know of our cultural leanings, but studying them helps us understand the impacts.}
well i mean just responding with indignance to even carrying this out with quantitative rigor

Ah. Hatred of the quantitative approach. TY 8)
Silly. Numbers don't help prove things much. They help DISprove... if one can define a problem well enough.
What isn't silly is their annoyance when someone steps across scholastic fields to do it. e.g. Physicists in EconLand.
There are legitimate criticisms against quantification in history that suggest it should be complemented by qualitative work. Problem here is that they're pearl-clutching maniacs
I'm one of those physicists stepping across lines here, but... I'd guess the usual issue with quantification is actually an issue with attempting a predictive model supporting a state equation. Macro-econ folks try this. One might get lucky, but probably won't.
Im not gonna read the paper but I'd guessed it was some reduced form natural experiment work
Looked like it. I agree. I actually find that topic interesting, but didn't until after I read McCloskey's work explaining the "Great Enrichment."
