Lev Grossman coined a great term in his novel The Magicians: inverse profundity. It refers to the phenomenon that the closer you get to the Great Truths of the Universe, the more banal they are. This also applies to moral philosophy, in my opinion.

What you arrive at after a long journey through first principles is basically the modern world, i.e. rule consequentialism and endless debates about which versions of rules offer more utility.
