True that. We have a gnarly patch to clear over this next century though. Eternal boomer gerontocracy is an extremely plausible outcome.
we need to stop life extension by any means necessary
when only high time preference people are left civilization itself won't be
depends how environmental it is certain heritable behavior traits may only lead to reproduction in certain circumstances (this is what happened)
*If* memetic selection is stronger than genetic selection, couldn't antireproductive memes "improve" faster than genetic counterpressures, leading to collapse? Doesn't seem likely to me, but I guess I wouldn't be super complacent about selection sorting this out tbh.
I'd be interested to see a chart 50 years prior of children surviving to adulthood. Probably closer to today then a huge surge from the mid 30s to 50s from expected mortality no coinsiding with advances in medicine.
Yes, but by the same argument the decline should never have happened.
well not necessarily if other pressures drove reproduction in the past and those were obviated by eg birth control
This assumes it’s a problem and not moving to a new equilibrium given lifestyles (mortality rate, cost of raising kids and value of additional labor). Of course I had 3 before 30 so I’m doing my part
