A smoke model loop from tonight into Monday A.M. Improvement is coming by later Sunday. Information Society's song "Pure Energy" came to mind. Like Doctor McCoy's sampled clip said, "It's worked so far, but we're not out yet". We'll need some atmospheric energy to clear out. pic.twitter.com/0Gs9KS5q79

does burning all of the trees in california: - increase global temperatures because co2 release? - decrease global temperatures (because particulate matter in atmosphere a la Tambora?) - other??

volcanic eruptions cause cooling also because their effects are globally felt and extend further into the upper atmosphere above weather patterns. Particulates from fires drop out quicker from gravity or water, so I’d say the effect of CO2 is more permanent either way.

I would guess that it will decrease global temperature overall b/c while a lot of carbon is being released it's going to get snapped right back up by new trees that evolved specifically to take advantage of the open ecosystem after a wildfire

increase because of CO2 release. we're at about 12 millions acres burned, so approximately 26.4 million metric tons of carbon. for comparison all natural gas plants in the US combined release 523 million metric tons of CO2 per year. not good, but not apocalyptic.

Don't believe this particulate matter is high enough in the atmosphere to make a difference. I seem to recall reading that only massive volcanic eruptions can accomplish this because you need a ton of force to get the particulate matter high enough to affect climate.

One of the California fires, that isn’t even on any media Bc it’s one of many, is burning an area where 90% of the trees are dead standing bc of bark beetle. Burn now > kill dumb tree bug > more green later to suck C02
