if someone is trying to pick a fight with you an easy flex is complimenting them a genuine compliment will simply confuse them, a fulsome-but-plausibly-deniable compliment will mog them but may make them really angry

the real beauty of it is not just meeting disagreeableness with affability its further that you've made something Nice, about Them, the battlefield they COULD disagree with you (their tactical inclination) but if they do they're suddenly arguing . . . against themselves!!
