fourteen hundred years give or take all someone had to do was cut up a few corpses and stare at them for five minutes corpses were not in short supply in those intervening years so tell me what corpses do you imagine no one is looking at today

imo the greatest trick the Old Science ever pulled was convincing people that This Time Is Differenthttps://twitter.com/AlfredDiffer/status/1304294557807304707?s=19 …

I think you are confusing 'science' done as natural philosophy by the ancients and 'science' done by people who are part of the liberal order. A phase change occurred in the 16th century and the old science got supplanted.

There IS a difference, but it's not the one people like to believe. There is nothing pretty or rational about science done in a liberal order. It's like most other competition arenas except less blood running in the streets. The difference is there is no King to please.

Kings, Popes, Princes, ... you name it. The Feudal Order demanded that you served them. Look to the history of the infinitesimal for just one example. Advocates survived in northern Europe for a reason.

Another I like to use is Hobbes and his dying belief that he could square the circle. He WANTED a Euclidian program of theorem/proof to apply to societies because that helped make sense to him when he thought about God.

That stuff moves people in a liberal order too, but they get shot down by a Young Gun from a different religious tradition... and no one gets literally crucified.

Heh. I get animated about this stuff. My prof got perforated before I became his student. He had to change topics and was never quite the same.
