There IS a difference, but it's not the one people like to believe. There is nothing pretty or rational about science done in a liberal order. It's like most other competition arenas except less blood running in the streets. The difference is there is no King to please.

Kings, Popes, Princes, ... you name it. The Feudal Order demanded that you served them. Look to the history of the infinitesimal for just one example. Advocates survived in northern Europe for a reason.
