upper middle class: violence is verboten and banished from all spheres upper class: violent, but indirectly unless a private sociopath. Direct others (lower middle, proletariat) to use violence on their behalf

the utter tabooing of violence by the upper middle class is interesting and i bet unusual and i also suspect a major, major blind spot

in this scheme probably lower middle people with extensive experience with firearms as a Pursuit are culturally are probably mostly lower middle cash and acumen and free time to get really good at it

yes, think so - mostly having fun by education / profession / conscientiousness / etc, I am upper middle and every post-college peer has been entirely anti-violence, but I sort of like it and make a conscious decision for Heinleinian reasons to avoid blindspot & not shy away

Where does studying martial arts put someone? Many of the people who pursue that tend to be of the same mindset or abilities as gun owners. They have free time and money to dedicate to the pursuit. I think the type of school you go to tells you a lot about it.

martial arts are tolerated like lifting weights is tolerated, slightly less so even you get side-eyed at least

strong agree hmm, also I think your scale is generally correct, Eigen, but there's an offset for blue tribe and red tribe so violence of 5 = mid class red or lower mid class blue violence of 7 = lower mid class red or low class blue etc obviously scales tie @ top & bottom

I see blue and red tribe substantially occupying different classes underclass and UMC are predominantly blue, LMC split depending on aspirations for UMC, proletariat red elites are psychotic instrumentalists I assume

disagree there are large numbers of red in every class there are large numbers of blue in every class you are maybe being too W Coast centric; visiting Atlanta / Houston / etc is relevant

I agree with Morlock here, as I see red and blue as orthogonal to class because they are manifestations of different cultural/national groups. It is hard for Americans to discuss both class and red/blueness because of these cross cutting cultural layers.
