This is a pretty US centric notion of class - the military in the UK, officers will tend to be upper middle class or higher.

We train future officers as a compulsory part of private school education, so there's really no doubt about this.

Upper middle class sense of guilt, sense of duty to maintain order due to indoctrination via church and school. , optimistic, since basic needs are met, higher up the Maslow pyramid.

This has been 100% my experience throughout my socially & geographically mobile and rather (state-sanctioned) violent life; especially astute observations regarding the upper middle class' relationship/revulsion to it
