another great book on this topic is "Meditations on Violence" by Rory Miller. probably not a perfect match for the lens you're examining violence through currently tho, it's more focused on an individual's internal state & reactions when violence occurs, not group/mob dynamics.

It is a myth that the wealthy class is blind to violence and unrest. They in fact see it much more clearly from their perch than the middle class, who as recent events show are oblivious to it even when it is directly in front of them. We will see if that obliviousness is an act.

To generalize, much of our code of law has to do with insulating individuals and property from violence so they can focus on productive pursuits, and establishing clear rules to arbitrate disputes before they come to open conflict.

If everyone has to continually keep a weather eye on their residence and person, and continuously relitigate their property rights, it's nearly impossible to seek employment further than shouting distance from home.
